As a parent of two kids and a home business owner, I know how difficult it is to schedule time for exercise. We might put it on our to do list for the day, but somehow it gets pushed and pushed and by the end of the day it gets categorized under ‘things that we did not complete’. I am guilty of this too. Lately though I have been much more focused and determined to reach my optimum weight before the end of the year. Here are some of my tips (tips that are helping me to stay motivated and focused on the task):
1. I get my favorite podcasts on to my ipod and set it aside for ‘exercise time’. I stop myself from listening to it at any other time – allowed to listen only when I am exercising. I love podcasts – and so this is kind of a reward for me and hence it motivates me to get up and exercise.
2. I try not to make the routine too hard – I love walking and so walking for at least an hour, 4 times a week is my routine. I know that I will probably get to my goals if I do some jogging or something more rigorous than walking – but for me walking is what I like and so I prefer to stick with it. The main thing is to get started and do something – If it is less strenuous then do it more often. Make it fun and make sure it is something you like.
3. Break your goal – rather than saying I want to lose 5 pounds by the end of the year, break it into smaller goals – maybe one pound each month.
5. Discuss your progress with your friends and get support from your close network.
