Is a Vegetarian Weight Loss Diet For You?

It is very important to speak with your doctor before you take on a new diet. But, is a vegetarian diet for you? Yes, that is the question. If you plan to partake of this type of menu, you should find out the information that will set you on the quest to better health.

My own family loves to eat meat! Oh boy, if flesh is not oozing juices from their plates, they feel a meal is not complete! My family laughs in the faces of those who practice a vegetarian life style. Vegetarians used to be considered weird not too long ago. But look at how things have changed. It is true; we Americans have a terrible habit of eating too much!


I practice an herbivorous diet. If you were to see me you would not believe the life style I once had. I was obese. I had high blood pressure. I became a diabetic. My menu consisted of horrible saturated fats, empty carbohydrates and sugary drinks. I was at an impasse. I had to do something different or I was going to die at an early age.

It was not easy, but I slowly began to eat differently. I incorporated more vegetables, nuts, legumes, whole grains and fruits into my regimen. I started taking walks. Of course, in the beginning I could not walk very far. But, each day I went a little further. Then I started to jog. Now I can run marathons. You must get yourself moving if you plan to make a change in your history.

I really did not think I would be able to give up protein in the form of meat. I have to admit, I loved it. But with some searching, I found I could get protein from mushrooms, sweet potatoes, radishes, beets, carrots, and watermelon. It is shocking just how many foods have protein, which are not flesh.

If you are consuming a  diet  rich in vegetables and fruits you have a very good chance of fighting different types of cancers. It has been shown that a  diet  consisting of a high quantity of these foods can give you up to a fifty percent less chance of getting a variety of cancers. Eating these foods can even give you a better outcome in the prevention of skin cancers. Now, how great is that?

Did you also know that nuts and whole grains are good for your  diet ? Nuts do not have much saturated fat. Nuts are high in what is called monounsaturated fat. Nuts have folic acid that is great for women who are pregnant. They contain potassium, magnesium, and dietary fiber. Rich, whole grains can help you fight heart disease. This is simply wonderful!
