If there was one time in the year that was a great motivator to lose weight, Christmas would be it!

Don’t be doomed like the other 90 percent of people who wait till new years eve, make a new year’s resolution (probably the same one you made last year), only to wind up lasting about a week and a half, or until the Christmas holidays are over. You go back to your normal work routine and your resolution is done and dusted for another year!

Here are several reasons Christmas is a great excuse for motivation to lose weight.

• The office Christmas party and that dress you want to look good in.

• The family Christmas lunch that you want to impress the family by how good you look.

• Looking good in the ball gown you are wearing to the new year’s ball

• Being able to over indulge over Christmas and not having to feel guilty

• Be on your way to your goal weight by new years so you resolution only has to be to keep at it.

• Not being in that 90 percent of people who make a new year’s resolution to lose weight, only to blow it before the start of Feb.

How to get motivated to lose weight

I’m sure you can come up with many other reasons to get motivated to lose weight, but the big question is, how do you get started?

One of the best ways is recruit a family member, a friend or someone from the office that has the same goal (not too many people don’t want to look good in time for Christmas!)

• Set a plan to walk, ride or swim together a couple of mornings a week before or after work.

• Agree to support each other and commit to reaching your goals

• Plan your meals for the week and avoid convenient options (agree to bring your lunch from home a number of times each week)

• Hold each other accountable, but support each other if someone slips occasionally.

• Reward yourselves when you reach small milestones

• One day a week can be an eat what you want day, but get back on the wagon the next day.

Motivation for weight loss

The health benefits and feeling of well being that comes from being a healthy weight, should be a good enough motivation for weight loss, but most of us will usually only change our habits, when the felling of being overweight or the want to look good in that dress becomes so strong that we are forced to change our ways to relieve that want or need.
