10 Weight Loss Motivation Tips

Have you hit a plateau in your weight loss mission? If not fitting into your jeans isn’t motivating enough to get you back to the gym, here are 10 weight loss motivation tips.

1- Retrain your mind and life: Think of it as staying “healthy.” Focus on getting enough iron and calcium in your diet instead. Your perception of diet and weight loss will change. You’re trying to stay healthy not trying to lose weight. Who knows? Maybe you’ll lose the love handles in the process.

2- Keep your eye on the prize: If it’s 10 pounds in two months, put it on the calendar. Draw a big, red circle around the date. Just don’t be all bummed out if you only lose 8 pounds at the end of two months. Tell people of what you’re trying to accomplish. You might even inspire them to join you.

3- Get touchy and feely: Studies show that women who get touched by another person regularly have a better image of themselves. Those with better images usually have better eating habits. Whether you achieve this by enjoying a night of bedroom fun or getting a massage, it’s a win-win situation all around.

4- Spice it up: If it’s bending upside down in 100 degrees Fahrenheit, try it. If it’s hanging from ropes in midair, go for it. Variety is essential to keep exercising. “A variety of class formats will keep you motivated and interested, as well as give you different instructor styles, music selection, and interaction with other participants,” says the Hershey Orthopedic and Spine Rehabilitation.

5- Buddies: What better weight loss motivation than exercising with a friend. It’s not just socializing, they also push you to do better and stay committed to the exercise. You don’t want to let your friend down by not showing up.

6- Adopt a furry friend: Dogs need to be walked. If not, they have accidents. Cleaning up poop from a recently mopped floor will undoubtedly get you walking. If you don’t have dog, surely your friend wouldn’t mind if you borrowed his/her dog a few times a week.

7- Listen to Music: A study from the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences showed that listening to music is a great motivator, improves endurance, and exercise intensity. Rock on!

8- Lift the weight you’ve lost in dumbbells: If you’ve never done it, DO IT! You’ll soon be reminded of what you used to carry around with you. Talk about weight loss motivation bumped up a notch.

9- Become a workout groupie: The guilt you feel after not showing up to your weekly Tuesday yoga class is huge weight loss motivation in itself.

10- Chart your weight: Studies show that if you weigh yourself every day, you are more likely to lose weight. There are counting calories websites like MyFitnessPal.com that will do this for free. You can always do it yourself and post it on the refrigerator door next to your child’s artwork.

Study after study shows that the most successful way to lose weight and maintain the weight off is through diet and exercise. It’s not easy. I know. But isn’t your life worth being healthy?
